Balmain Design: Bringing web design & photography together

Websites are a visual medium. Site graphics and photographs help spark that all important initial viewer response. Great images are vital with keeping viewers connected with your site. Balmain Design will work with your images and prepare them for the web. Better yet the professional design package offers experienced, custom photography that helps bring that unique site message and presentation alive.

Site graphics and images often need to meet very specific size, shape and theme requirements to make them work with the overall design. Very wide but shallow banner images are but one example. Whatever the requirements are you can be sure that your highest photography and imaging expectations will be met.

The above series of images is just a sample of photos produced SPECIFICALLY for websites...

  • The great thing about photography is the variety. Each "situation" presents its own problems though. Overcoming these issues takes experience, patience, technique, good equipment and sometimes good old fashion luck.
  • Some photographs require being there at the perfect time of the day. The panoramic shot of the Seattle skyline was done specifically for a real estate company: its actually several vertical images stitched together with Photoshop. Being at the right location at dusk on a clear day was planned. The full moonrise was a wonderful surprise though. The panoramic shot of the fabricator welding was carefully planned and executed at dusk with three hidden strobes to help balance out the sparks and highlight the welder.
  • The colorful plasma cutter photo included three strobes as well and some careful testing to set the long shutter speed required to capture the sparks. The camera was triggered remotely for safety as the sparks were quite close to the camera.
  • Location work always brings all kinds of issues into play: poor lighting, contrast issues and sunlit windows etc. Careful tripod technique and additional lighting help "open up" interiors and create an inviting atmosphere.
  • Product photography requires a wide range of problem solving as well. Creating white backgrounds (wine photo) or solid black backgrounds (guitar photo) help match website design considerations already in place. Eliminating picture frame glass glare on a series of exotic bug photos required placing large sheets of dark matt board "just so" to kill the reflections.
  • Creating pleasing photographs of people also takes magic at times. Sometimes you get totally lucky. Look at the wonderful, happy face on the infant photos that were produced for a medical clinic website for example.
  • Photography is all about perfect timing. Take a look at the little girl in the Gilda's Club fashion show from a series of images taken of at fundraiser show. All the participants have battled or are fighting cancer. That brave little girl graced the spotlit stage in front of hundreds of people, all by herself. She emerged, swung her body to one side, paused for a moment, and then presented her full face as she marched down the runway. She is battling a rare eye tumor and must have been very self conscious about the appearance of her face. This image just seemed to capture her shyness, grace and braveness in one fleeting instant...
